Please donate. Every bit helps. The tornadoes ripped through parts of Wellington leaving behind just rubble and devastation. This video is in rustic ranches. The remains of a house where multiple families used to live. Several of them were severely injured when they got trapped in the house. Including a child whose legs were broken.

@mphill222 @garrettdsmith8 were there as first responders to help get them out and to the hospital by off-roading through the fields. Nobody else could get to the site because power lines were down on the road and the other end of Flying Cow Road has been blocked for months.

I know you’ve been wondering…
Tails are braided and taped up so they don’t get caught on the mallet when it swings.

The horses manes are clipped short so they don’t get tangled in the players’ fingers and the reins. Also polo ponies are neck reined, meaning the rider tells them what to do by moving the rein on their neck, like a joystick. (And applying pressure on their belly with legs to signal which way and how fast the player wants to go).

The horses’ legs are protected with thick fleece bandages and guards. Also taped for security.

The tack looks different than other horse sports and can look like a lot to a novice, but every piece has a purpose.

There are two sets of reins for more brake power.

There is also a standing martingale which is a strap that attaches from the bridle through the breastplate, to the girth and prevents the horses head from going up too much and hitting the player (the horses can still move their heads plenty, this isn’t forcing them down or anything, it’s just a safety for the player to not get headbanged)

The girth is the strap that attaches to both sides of the saddle under the belly. The Argentine style has another strap that goes all the way around, you can see it on top of the saddle. It goes through some slits on the side and around the belly of the horse. It’s the style but also an added safety to keep the saddle in place.

Most players use a saddle pad under their saddles but it is not always necessary. It’s usually done to keep the saddle clean(er). Sometimes you will see a riser (a smaller looking saddle pad made of foam) under the saddle. This is because in polo we use one saddle for many horses and if it doesn’t fit just right we will adjust it with risers.

Please note this horse was NOT one of the horses available for rent at the pyramids, those animals are not well treated. I booked my ride through @my_cavago with a reputable local company that had been vetted for quality and animal welfare. This horse was a beautiful Arabian named Karate, he had a nice round booty and was strong but also very sweet and gentle. Clear signs that he is treated right by humans.
