Aiken Polo – Pete Bostwick Cup Final

On my quest to discover polo in different spots of the world, I have made my way to one very special and historic place for American polo, Aiken in South Carolina. Aiken is home to many famous high goalers (check out this blogpost if you are new to polo), such as Adam Snow (former 10 goals), Tommy Hitchcock (former 10 goals), Tommy Biddle (former 8 goals) and Julio Arellano (8 goals), it is where Alan Meeker, a renowned name in...

A Surprising US Open Polo Championship 2018 Final

Sunday, April  22nd, was a day many were looking forward to. The prediction was that team Valiente (Bob Jornayvaz, Tommy Beresford, Facundo Pieres and Adolfo Cambiaso) would also take home the third trophy in the American Triple Crown of 26-goal polo. Being the strongest team throughout the high goal season, with the two top players in the world (Cambiaso and Pieres) playing together in the blue jerseys, it was thought to be a sure win. (If you are new to...

FIP Zone A Playoffs at International Polo Club Palm Beach

Sunday was a fun day. Full of polo. First I started off at Grand Champions, which you can read about here (will open in a new page so you can read it, when finished with this post). Then we all headed over to IPC for the final of the FIP (Federation of International Polo) Zone A playoffs. 23 polo players representing their respective countries of USA, Mexico and Guatemala had been training together for a month to compete for a...

113th US Open Polo Championship Final – Witnessing History in the making

The US Open Polo Championship is really one of the highlights of the international polo calendar, and definitely the crown jewel of the polo season in Wellington, Florida, USA. The championship has been played at the International Polo Club Palm Beach since 2004. I have been lucky enough to attend and witness the exciting final three years in a row now, and this year was definitely a nail-biter. (read the 2016 match here and the 2015 match here) The final...

Julius Baer Gold Cup – Dubai Polo Open Draw

Monday, February 6th was one of the big days in my job, as social media and marketing executive at Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club. It was the press conference and live draw for our most important tournament, The Julius Baer Gold Cup 2017. I have been to many press conferences before, in several different capacities, but this one was a new one for me. I have sat were the reporters were sitting, taking pictures and noting all the important...

112th US Open Polo Championship Final

Polo is one of the most exciting and intense sports there is, with so much action on the field, horses galloping at 60 km/h, mallets swinging and hitting a tiny ball across the 300 yards long field. And when the two best teams of the tournament meet for the featured match, the US Open Polo Championship Final, it is bound to be an explosive affair. Teams: Orchard Hill Facundo Pieres 10 Julian de Lusaretta 6 Juan Martin Nero 10 Steve...

US Open Polo Semifinal 2016

On this Wednesday April 20th morning the sky was unsettling, as if to mirror the feelings of unnerving excitement for the two battles to be fought on the grounds of the International Polo Club Palm Beach for the Semifinal of the 112th US Open Polo Championship. Polo fans gathered from all corners of the world (and I can say this with certainty as just my little squad span nationalities from Brazilian, to French and all the way down under to...

Polo handicaps for newbies

Last week the USPA announced the polo handicap changes, including the most exciting one being Pablo Pieres Jr. “Polito” going up to 10 goals in outdoor polo. Polito was born in Connecticut and is therefore the first American player to receive a 10-goal handicap since Adam Snow in 2003 and is currently the only American 10-goaler. In my eyes he is more Argentinian than American, but his passport has the eagle on it so I guess that is what counts...
